ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
Early in life, Sari Yap displayed an entrepreneurial bent that belied her age.
In nursery school, she made her first sale and never looked back,
maintaining a continuous stream of novel profit generating activities throughout her school years.
As a graduate student in Spain, Yap became obsessed with the idea of creating a fashion publication,
spending hours creating a mock-up using cut-outs from Spanish magazines.
Perhaps no coincidence at all, her masteral thesis was entitled "Entrepreneurship in the Mass Media."
Once back in Manila, Yap began to follow through on her vision of a world class fashion magazine,
which the Philippines in the early 90s had yet to produce.
The challenges that followed - pre press and printing technology had to be sourced abroad,
cynicism from industry nay-sayers who insisted that such a project was simply not viable only strengthened Yap’s determination
to establish her fashion magazine MEGA, in the process unwittingly paving the way for the entire Philippine glossy magazine industry.
Today, as Chief Executive of ONE MEGA GROUP, Sari Yap is at the helm of a growing and continuously
innovating enterprise with 10 world-class Filipino media brands-MEGA, Lifestyle Asia,
TRAVEL, MEG, MyHome, BluPrint, Condo Living, Appetite, Inside Showbiz, and Celebrity Mom - impacting the lifestyles
of Filipinos in the fields of fashion, beauty, architecture, home and design, arts and culture, food, travel and entertainment.
In 2010, Yap set out to achieve yet another milestone in Philippine mass media by producing and hosting
the first season of Generation MEGA TV shows, which would eventually give birth to the One MEGA Group television department, TV100.
In the same year, the company set up Events 100, an events management division that caters to clients looking for the same creative,
premium and awe - inspiring executions theyve witnessed in MEGA - produced events. In early 2011,
the company Yap founded launched the website MegaStyle.ph, continuing to explore new products through digital media.
In 2012, the group has successively launched its other digital platform namely InsidePinoyShowbiz.ph,
iamMEG.ph, Appetite.ph, and MyHomeDesign.ph. The mission is the same, to be the standard of Filipino media excellence,
bringing to an even larger number of Filipinos the same quality content they have grown to associate
with ONE MEGA GROUP and its visionary founder.
In recognition of Yap’s entrepreneurial achievement and her remarkable contributions
to the local publishing industry, she has received awards from numerous institutions.
From her alma mater for primary and secondary education, Maryknoll (now Miriam) College,
she received the Amazing Alumni Award in 2003. In 2008, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary
of the University of the Philippines, she was recognized as one of the state university's Outstanding Alumni
from the College of Mass Communication. In the same year, she was top billed in a nationwide-released business
book entitled "Go Negosyo", which compiled 50 inspiring stories of the country’s top celebrity entrepreneurs.
In 2009, Yap was recognized as one of the most influential people in
fashion by 100 Magazine: The Most Coveted Lifestyle List. She was also included by the Filipino-Chinese
Federation of Business and Professional Women of the Philippines as
one of the Philippine's empowered women in a book entitled,
"When SHE takes the LEAD: Profiles of Women Who Have Shaped Society." In the same year,
the Philippine Marketing Association recognized her pioneering work by conferring on her it’s prestigious
Agora Award for Outstanding Marketing Achievement in Entrepreneurship. In 2012, she was awarded as one of
the Go Negosyo Women Starpreneurs at the 4th Women Entrepreneurship Summit and Expo.
A visionary is often described as one who can imagine things that as yet do not exist,
but might someday. He is able to envision worlds of possibilities that others cannot even begin to comprehend.
But while visions can be a dime a dozen, it takes real gumption to bring visions to fruition.
In this sense, Sari Yap is not merely a visionary; she is also a true pioneer.
Sari Yap’s undying passion for her craft stems from her vision of service to society through excellence in the mass media.
While her contribution to the local publishing industry is nothing short of remarkable,
Yap's true gift is that she inspires others to be visionaries themselves,
to envision worlds of possibilities, to create something out of nothing.
